Disappointment with Political Bloggers

This happens again and again. I find a cool blog, usually a feminist or liberal/progressive political one. I read a couple of entries, think 'wow, this person is cool, intelligent, has views I didn't even know I had too till they articulated them so well' - sounds nice, yes? Exactly. If I'm posting an opinion then it's probably something I would love to debate, why else would I post about it? But after observing the above described behavior, commenting to disagree seems like such a dangerous thing to do I understand when people don't. As you say, you can never tell. It doesn't help that I'm usually inspired to comment only when I disagree, at least in part, so it would be the authors first 'meeting' with me. Old commentators who've 'proven their loyalty' can sometimes disagree, first timers never...

And I have to say, having someone make polite noises at you might not be as cool or fulfilling as a true discussion but it's certainly better then being demonized. I would think you'd feel more confident in engaging in discussion in your own space though, you can always erase them if they turn rabid, no?

I'm making a mental note to feel free to disagree with you on your lj now, fair warning! Hope you don't mind.
