I would have flown into LAX -- it's a 4 hour drive from LA to Las Vegas, you could have easily gotten another flight, a train, or a bus.

But I hate airports too.

yeah - problem is, they don't do flights from Providence to LA. which seems pretty stupid. Phoenix is about the furthest you can fly from that airport.
