[Voice]
I'm looking for a job. Is there some place in this town that lists what things a person could do?
[She pauses, then speaks again, with a bit more of an assertive tone]
Really now, don't all of you get bored without something to do
(

... but I would wish to be able to do more.
What sort of c-career are you interested in pursuing...? [Robert sounds awkward here; a blend of almost-excited and nervous.] I was, er, th-thinking of sharpening my skills at doctoring, perhaps try to become a passable one... I am certain there might be something you could engross yourself in, if you wished.

[She sighs]
I have no idea what I would be interested in.
Reply
It would not be the first time, or the last, that I have explained human biology. [And Robert has no real filters or embarrassment about it, so Gem can pretty much go crazy.]
Is there anything that you enjoy doing, such as hobbies or pastimes? That could influence your decision as to some sort of job here.
Reply
Not really. Nothing here, at least.
Reply
[Thoughtfully:] And there is no way to do what you would do at home, here?
... Is it due to the lack of technology?
Reply
Yes, technology is an aspect.
And there was also very little I did that could be considered a 'hobby'.

The lack of technology here in Luceti is downright pitiful at times. I can certainly understand why it would be a detriment here...
... Were you not the sort of person who had hobbies?
Reply
No. I was not allowed to have them.
I enjoy drinking, at least.
Reply
Not allowed to have hobbies? ... Is it because you are a Program? I mean... it seems unfair to stop you from it at all, but I would imagine that the computer would require you to be doing something more often than not. Which is unfortunate. [And explains why Gem probably feels so bored and listless here.]
Drinking...? Alcoholic beverages, or... something else? An equivalent, perhaps? [Robert's tone is just a tad wavery here. He, uh, has some alcoholism problems himself when he's depressed.]

[She sighs.]
My situation is unique.
Alcoholic equivilant.
Reply
... It does seem like a unique situation, from what you have described.
Ah, I see... That does seem to make sense. Though I am not certain how it would work for a Program...
Reply
No one understands my particular situation, do they.

[That and the idea of people dying right in front of him = not a pleasant one for this poor scientist.]
And, as unfortunate as it is, I... would hesitate to say that many people, including myself, would be able to. There is a great mental divide, of a sort, here... though I would not be adverse to explanations, but it may be difficult to explain...
[Xenophobic or not, Robert knows this much.]

... [Injuring oneself for knowledge. It was so easy for him to do, but then again harming himself means only he has to consent to it.]
I suppose if the idea truly does not... bother you that much...
... I would not wish to have you inflict pain meaninglessly on yourself, though. That would be decidedly inethical.
