I wanted to upload some songs for Blue and her new little gizmo and in doing so, was talking to Master Erestor about how fun it would be to share songs amongst us - not to steal money from the artists, but to promote those artists we like and hopefully spring new sales and discover new favorites. Actually, I think this is a great idea. I was just compiling a few songs for Blue myself, so it would be easy to make this a music swap circle...
Any idea how best to do this?

well, I'm over cautious, especially after reading Erestor's post just now as I"m not out to support illegal music stuff. I was thinking something private - flock to flock...honestly mine will be under a custom filter with only people that ask that I feel like I can trust - but in that...I would think just a few at a time, with explanations of who the bands are and why you like them and what you can find to buy of them would be good. I was thinking a community is maybe not right for this cause I don't wanna start a whole "super download instead of buy" thing, just a "learn more about my by seeing what I listen to - so try this out and see what you think and I like it and if you like it, go buy it, kind of thing." What do you think?

I have thought about this, too... and you're right about not making a community. That would kinda ruin the whole "avoid anything illegal" idea. It really should be a way to know people better - and I really like that way of meeting people.
As for organization, I think it would be best to upload songs to yousendit and post links in a locked entry. The only problem would be to find a way to spread the word to some friends... maybe via IM?
Snowballing those infos usually works quite well, and we can restrict it to people on our flist.
For the time being, I will zip some songs and send them to Blue, but also keep this in mind for a special LJ filter. If more people share, it's less one-sided and much more fun. *^_^*

I think this is so awesome! I LOVE learning about the music my friends like, and to find new favourites this way. I think it would only encourage record sales - at least for me personally, since I prefer to have the full CD's, cover and all - and always buy them in the shop. :-)

I would be very interested and am trying to decide what to upload myself that would not offend too many people. *grin* think bananas at large and thirty point buck.

I like learning what other people listen to, I'd like to be added too :)

I'm not sure how to share what I listen to but I'd be willing to try and use usendit.com if that is what everyone is using.
