Does anyone on my friends list follow this anime? If so, can you give me a simple to follow idea of what the different parts of this "Mysterious Play" are about and how best to purchase said anime on dvd? I see tons on Ebay, but the prices are so varied and the number of eps too...can anyone help?

General gist: not-so-bright but bighearted girl goes to ancient world when she reads a book. In order to get home, she eagerly accepts being Suzaku no Miko (priestess of Suzaku), one of four maidens from another world come to serve one of the four gods. In order to go home, she has to find seven warriors granted powers by Suzaku to summon the god and grant wishes. In a strange plot twist, girl's best friend is also brought into the book world and made Seiryuu no Miko, an opposing god ruling over an opposing country. War ensures and lots of stuff happens (including both girls falling in love with the same guy; this is a girls' story after all).
I'd say the best place to get DVDs is from Amazon.

I see boxsets with Seiryu, Suzaku and Oni/Eikoden. I see the series split out into volumes. I see japanese with english subs. I see english dubbed. It's so hard trying to figure out which to buy - I'd love to have one set that has it all..but is there such a thing?

Fushigi Yuugi ran for two series, hence two boxsets. I believe Suzaku is the first season, and Seiryuu is the second season. In addition to the TV series, OAV/OVA (original video animation, episodes only released on video) series were made and there were three of those. OAV series 1 and 2 come in a black box; Eikoden was OAV series 3 (and the last of Fushigi Yuugi ever) and comes in a green box.
Japanese with English subs (which I prefer, btw) has the original Japanese dialogue with English subtitles running along the bottom. English dubbed means the series has been dubbed into English language.
