Oh the sadness...

Whinewhinewhine...

So this draft is part revision of the last draft, part new stuff.  I've started almost every chapter and already written the end, but I haven't done my work chronologically - so when I did my word count for the first six and half chapters which are complete and in order, I only have 23,610 words.  Granted, I only started this ( Read more... )

I've had problems when merging my docs into a meta-doc. But I figured it was my hardware at fault--you know, processer speed or whatever. RAM. Fraggy hard drives.

I thought I was going to be working on my WIP's sequel for NaNo too but Life Happened and I'm just going to be toting the current WIP.

Is that unethical? To start at 20K or 40K words for NaNo? Is that like cheating? Oh, well, it doesn't matter, because I'm doing it anyway.

Hey, what kind of system do you use for backing up your files?

No one seems to know how to merge things into one master document. You can do it with Liquid Story Binder, but it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Microsoft Word does. (Namely the spell checker and grammar checker is nowhere near as good)

For NaNo, I'll probably do something similar. I have last year's NaNo to finish still. I made word count, but...I didn't finish the story. Lol

File system for back ups? I have an external harddrive and just manually back everything up. I'm sure there's a program but it won't put things where I can find them damnit, so I do it myself.

See, it's little questions like these that nag me and I feel so foolish asking people about. "Hey, Ilona, so, do you store everything as one doc or do you store stuff as chapters? How do you manage files?"

Thta does it, I'm asking Santa for a thumb drive. You think YOU are waving goodbye to technology...last month I wanted to back up my data and I cast around for a floppy disk. Seriously. My computer, nearly obselete as it is, is still too new to even have a 3 1/2 floppy drive. I felt like such a tool. :D

I'm thinking I may just revert back to looseleaf, Bics, and 3 ring binders. Or parchment and quills.

..............

Yeah, do you have a microcenter near you? Newegg and Amazon have some decent sales. Microcenter has a website too.

I've been done both storing in one doc and multiple chapters. I've found writing in one doc makes the writing get done faster, and then switching to chapter format for editing.

You could back up on CDs, but if you can get a thumb drive, why bother?
