Just use a lightweight client like pine. I have 33k messages in one inbox and counting, and I can search them in no time flat for something someone sent me 2 years ago.

I do use pine on occasion, but doing so behind NATs/firewalls (that I don't control) - with maximum TCP connection times of a few minutes - is a pain in the neck.

I never could understand people like you. If I have more then 10 messages in my inbox (for either my Yahoo! account or my school account) I start to feel like the world is in utter chaos, and then I work desperately to remove messages either by replying or writing things in my calendar instead.

But maybe I'm just nuts...

Do you find it ironic that MIT's page asks their students not to use those directions to spam gmail with thousands of saved messages? ;-)
