Yeah... I know about feeling a bit rough from exercise like that.
I'm about to turn (BWAAAAA.. No! It can't be true!!!) 49 in two weeks. I try hard to swim every day, and cover between 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile in the pool. When I'm not doing that I'm on a mountain bike, or one of those fancy pants Elliptical trainers; The age does show at times with sore shoulders, hands or joints.
But, keep it up! They estimate vigorous exercise can add several months to several years to one's life span (and the Reaper ain't taking me without a fight!).
Most importantly... That 40 times at bat is FAR better than I could ever do.
