Do you just need the arm, or the lens too?

The arm and lens are preferred, but if I need to assemble them as separate parts, I'm willing.

Well, if you're looking to build it yourself...

Beginner's guide to ball and socket armatures
by CastleGardener.

It requires a bit of metal shop skills, but I think that you know people who can help there. ^ _ ^

And knowing how to make your own armatures is just so SHINEY!

thinkgeek.com has a poseable tripod called the Gorillapod and you might be able to re-purpose it into 3 separate armatures. I'm sure I've seen cheaper knockoffs at my local electronics superstore.

You may be able to build what you want by taking apart a few of what they usually refer to as "Third Hand Magnifiers" and reassembling the parts. Here's a link to the lowest cost units I've seen on the web.

I found one of the small versions from Micro-Tools on Amazon.

Using the supplier page search, I found these:

ELP-872-50: Loupe, Spectacle - 4x at 2 1/2". ($37.80 each)

MI-126-2: Loupe, Double Eye 3X & 3X Two lenses ($8.85 each)

MI128-55: Clip-On 7/8" Double 5X 10X Loupe Set ($8.95 each)

There are more, but they don't have pictures and many are deep well pastic mounts that wouldn't look steampunkish.

It's a company that supplies scientific gear to teachers and aspiring/budding scientists.

Many of the items now in their catalogue are for younger people (they still have stuff for classroom use) but here's the link.

I don't know if they have what you're looking for Susan, but it might be of interest to you.

I'll keep my eye's open for anything else that might be closer to the needs you posted.

You might want to just look in a really good antique store.
