As I reported already, yesterday I created a single use gmail account and then used it to open a facebook account. Occasionally there are groups that have info I want to follow. I had no intention of friending people or posting anything ( Read more... )

You obviously don't meet Facebook's high standards. How are they supposed to sell you stuff of shape your opinions for you if you are invisible?

That's hilarious.

I had a similar problem when they did their big "real names only" crackdown, trying to force everyone to change their name to something that theoretically sounded like a real name. My account was flagged with some kind of scary notice. I sent a support request saying that my "name" (not really my name) was a perfectly cromulent name. Then after a month or two miraculously my account came back to life.

Good lord. I guess you're no good to Facebook if they can't make money off you.

One of my online news sources (might have been the Washington Post) set up a Facebook account with a middle of the road white middle class Jane Average profile. I think then that they just left the account alone, no posting or reacting, and joined a few very bland groups. They then just let it rip and watched their feed devolve into inanity and scammers. Interesting.

I feel like it's kind of a badge of honor.

PLUS! I've always felt a bit snobby saying I don't "do" facebook when someone asks to follow me or points me to something. Now I can say I'm not allowed! Much better.

Darn. I know some people who, it looks like the have more than one account under the same name (like John Smith or Amy Jackson, but not like "Spacecadet50/50" or whatever.

One was in FB jail for probably political comments, but he seems to have made or already had a second account.
