Socks R Us

It occurs to me that I've been whining a lot about being busy and tired, so I thought maybe I should state for the record that I have actually been knitting stuff.  Nothing particularly impressive, but stuff, nevertheless.

Last month, I made a tiny little baby sweater and hat for Gwyneth, the newest addition to the Posavad clan.  Naturally, I ( Read more... )

Ooh, I like the club socks...which is kind of bad. Why? Because it makes me want to start them, and that's bad because I have a Clapotis that I'm determined to finish before Stitches West next weekend, plus 3 other pairs of socks already going on. One's from Schaefer Anne, and I need to start the heel flap there. That's been OTN since probably September or so. Then I've got the Marble Arches from a previous RSC year (I thought it was year 2, but it might be year 1, and you'd think I'd stop signing up for the club until I get them all finished, right? HA!). Then I decided I wanted something that I could knit kind of mindlessly for a while, so I started a pair of the Cedar Creek socks out of STR-L in Seal Rock. It actually wouldn't surprise me to find other ones I've started and abandoned either.

Also not so much a fan of the red, but you're right, it does look great. I'm in agreement about how handknit socks don't need to "go" with your outfit. My rule is that I made them, and that means that they go with whatever I say they go with.

Exactly! I have a whole divine rationale for that, too. Once, I ordered a nice, conservative burgundy yarn to make stockings - and I got a nice, brilliantly hot pink yarn. I guess I had somehow selected the wrong color. But I consider it a Sign from God that if I'm going to the effort of knitting knee-length fitted socks, I should not hide them away in a boring color. Hey, my name ain't Moses, I don't need burning shrubbery to get the point.

I totally agree with you.

Mmm...hot pink yarn. ;-)

(edited because I realized that I said "exactly" the same thing that you did, and then I felt dumb.)

The first ones are really for wearing like slippers, so they're really thick and stretchy from the ribbing, which makes them pretty squishy. (I'd refer to the person wearing them, but he never reads LJ, even though he's on it.) I like to use these mini-cables because they keep it interesting but they're easy and a little bit mindless - I just work 2 stitches in reverse order and that makes the twist. We don't need no stinkin' cable needles!

The lattice-y pattern on the leg is done that way, too, but it's hard to describe in words. I can chart it. (Actually, I'm such a geek that I did chart it before I started.)
