What with the holiday weekend, we missed a Sock Day. Allow me to update you. (I know we were all waiting with bated breath. . .)
TaDa!
Leafling made from BMFA Socks That Rock Mediumweight in Lucky
This was the March kit from the Rockin' Sock Club sold by Blue Moon Fiber Arts (
http://www.bluemoonfiberarts.com/newmoon/). Since the colorway and pattern are club exclusives, I'm supposed to be careful about where I post pictures for a month - fortunately, I was occupied with the Endless Pink Socks (ha! With the hearts, I should have called them Endless Love socks. Only I didn't love them. I still don't, by the way.)
Anyway. I did these using the 2 at once method on a long circular - size 2, 40". I think I do like the method - mind you, I love my double-pointed needles. The thing is, I rarely use a pattern as much more than a guideline. With the club socks, I am following the patterns more closely, but I do made adjustments for fit. By doing both socks at once, I don't have to make copious notes about my changes to the pattern (as if I actually did this) or keep looking back at the first sock to figure out what I did and how many times I did it (which is what I really do, most of the time). There is a period of time in the heel area when it feels like I'll NEVER be finished, and they don't go nearly as fast as single socks, but then there is the big payoff when you have both finished at the same time and you can just put them right on. That's kind of a thrill. (I know. It doesn't *sound* thrilling - it's just socks, after all. But trust me, when it's handknitted socks and you made them yourself, it is a thrill. Wal-Mart socks do not compare.)
I made the Small size in the ankle area, then downsized from there for the foot, extrapolating to what would be the next smaller size. Kind of an Extra-Small, if you will. Ha. My feet may be the only part of my body to qualify for that. The March kit used the Mediumweight yarn - it's a bit heavier than fingering, but maybe not quite DK. I really didn't think I'd care for how thick they are, but I find wearing them that it's not that bad. The pattern is adorable, fun and easy - I may even make it again in a different yarn, someday. It did take me a whole month to finish these, but I had to put them aside for a week or two in there to work on something else. So not bad. Not the blinding 1-week-speed of the January socks, but OK. Most importantly, I finished them before the next kit came. The May kit was shipped yesterday, so I should have it in a day or two.
