I have a Mirena IUD and have really liked it. The only "downside" for me is that I have ceased to bleed during my period, so my only real knowledge of my cycles has become when I get particularly cranky for no real reason. :-D
I wonder how the Mirena does with hormone fluctuations... because it doesn't do what the Pill does, in giving you a regulated dose of them... it's a constant release right at the uterus, preventing uterine lining from building up. It doesn't alter your ovulation, and as far as my logic applies, shouldn't have a huge effect on hormonal spikes relating to that. But maybe the local application has larger systemic effects as well.
