I tried to donate blood today, and was denied because I had both low iron AND low haemoglobin. Now I have to wait until OCTOBER. So bummed.

the last time i donated blood was fall of 2000. i passed out at the cookie table and the nurses told me to wait about 3 years before i tried again. so i just gave up. i think my low BP (took me an hour to donate my first time, another hour to lay down after because i was so woozy) means i cannot handle losing blood.

weird. i have slightly low bp (have had a couple of fainting episodes from orthostatic hypotension), but i just drink a tonne of fluids for a couple of days beforehand, and then make sure i take a fairly good, brisk walk to the clinic right before i donate and i seem to do alright.

last time i donated, my iron was low but my haemoglobin was barely in their acceptable range so i was allowed to donate. my iron and haemoglobin are actually in a totally normal range, just not high enough to be considered acceptable for donating blood.
