I'd love to have some spicy honey sauce when we make our own sushi, but I can't find a recipe for it on the internet, and I can't find it in an asian grocery market. But perhaps it has some japanese name that I ( Read more... )

I've never heard of this sauce.

Well, actually they usually serve it with complicated sushi rolls. Which is probably why it's tough to find a sushi place that uses said sauce...

I checked out your location and I'm going to have to say that it's something specific to that one restaurant. It's not something served in any of the Japanese (or Korean, for that matter) sushi places in Seattle or Vancouver, and when I was a sushiya we never had anything like that. Just the bbq sauce for the eel, mayo, and sriracha.

Ah, I see. It very well could be specific to Mid-Atlantic states or the east coast area, but I wouldn't know off hand.

It could be soy sauce infused with chili and honey. There are a few sushi places in Syndey that also use spicy honey sauce, but I've never personally tried it myself.

It's probably just easier to ask the staff at the sushi restaurant, who knows you might even be able to buy some ^_^

Not necessarily unagi no tare. Just look up ponzu.

Think basic when going about recreating the sauce. For instance, a sushi bar/japanese restaurantI used to work at had a creamy dressing for their salad instead of vinniagarette and it was mayo, peanut butter and sriracha. Sounds disgusting, but everyone LOVED it.
