Cinder toffee is one of the things that makes me sad. Someone bought it for my mum last Christmas, and she exclaimed, "Ooh, I LOVE cinder toffee! Haven't had it for years!" And I though, now you tell us? All those years when we could have been buying you cinder toffee, and now you tell us, when you're terminally ill and we know this is your last Christmas? Bah!"
Aw, that is rather sad. I sometimes think mums spend their whole lives worrying about what other people like, or want, or need, and forget about what they like or want or need.
Or they know what they want or need, but sublimate it in return for a quiet life.
Or they spend years persuading themselves that no, they no longer want or need this, out of some sort of weird "if I don't sublimate my desires I won't be a good wife/mother".
I've also promised to make banana (or non-banana, if preferred) pancakes for breakfast. I'm _very_ good at them these days, and will avoid putting sloes in them.
