That’s interesting that you know somebody that used to dumpster dive. I don’t think I could do it. I am the type of person that cringes at the thought of eating something that is past its “best before date”. I have a friend that has no problem with it, she always eats yogurt that has expired and it grosses me out. I guess if I ended up in a situation that I relied upon it to survive then I would have to get used it, but it wouldn’t be easy.

You made a good point that “because of his vivid imagery and detail, you feel completely involved”. His descriptions were so detailed that I got a very clear picture in my mind of what it might be like to dumpster dive.

I think I could live by Eighner’s philosophy of only acquiring what you need, it would take some getting used to but I think it could be done. I think it would also depend on what he considers to be a necessity and what isn’t. I am sure that some of the things I would consider a necessity he would disagree.
