Having read your take on "Rock 'n' Revolt" I found that I had a completely different outlook on the essay. I really enjoy that, after having read the same essay, we had seemingly opposite interpretations. (Although we do share the same opinion on the violin music) I had also not read very far into the way Leymarie referred to the effects, positive and negative, that music has on plants. The way she compares the influence music has on plants to those on people was very effective and something that I had not paid much attention to.
To answer your question, I often consider music's influences on myself as well as society. There are definitely genres of music that effect me differently: both positive and negative. Having said that, I do not believe that rock, or any other genre, can brainwash or control the masses negatively.
