Death of Friendships

Friends have come and gone constantly throughout my life.  I would say more then the average person. And after all those years, I still can't figure out why this happens. I blame it on my personality most of the time. I reasoned that there's probably something wrong with me that I can't see myself but others can, like I'm super weird or something. ( Read more... )

While I do think that it's important to reexamine the behaviours that could possibly result in lack or ending of friendships, this seems to be a case of just having life get in the way. I don't talk to most of the people from my last college anymore; this doesn't mean that we're no longer friends. Just that we've become busy.

As for the friends from high school and elementary, I can totally relate to the feeling of loss that you described. I was heart broken during my first summer out of high school. Although..it didn't take long for me to find new friends that I may not have shared as many interests with, but were closer to my heart.

Hope you feel better soon.

Lol, I guess the difference with me is that if I don't talk to a friend for a long time and the friend doesn't talk to me much either, they fall out of the "friends" category and into the "acquiantance" group. When I say "long time", I meant like over half a year.

Thanks, I kind of feel better already just by writing about it, lol.

Many of the things you say apply to me as well. I also have a hard time keeping friends. I am a very private person and need some time to trust someone and let them close. Usually my best friend is my girlfriend, so I look for that quality in a girl, before I become serious with her. And then comes family and then friends, who may not be really close to me, maybe they're also in the category of 'acquaintances'.
