i know you are probably really annoyed with me telling you to move to milwaukee but this new residency sounds really awesome. one of the girls starting it went to MIAD and she hired me for the artists working in education thing i did last year. http://www.redlineartmke.org/
paul said he thought it was for print makers because they are putting in a ton of printmaking equipment and kari (the founder, not you!) was a printmaking major. but, the description doesn't mention that. we didn't go to the meeting yesterday because we were too hung over but i'm sure there will be more meetings. i want to volunteer if i can because the volunteering aspect is art classes with children.
i think it would be awesome for you since you talked about wanting to do more print stuff but don't have the equipment. also, applications aren't due until may, so it may not start until after your new lease is up! either way the rent is free for residencies!
it sounds awesome, but honestly the chances of me moving to milwaukee are probably slim. :( i'm sorry. i wish we could somehow make minneapolis and milwaukee closer....or combine the things i like about minneapolis into milwaukee, then i'd move. :(
well, residencies aren't reallt moving they are working/living in an art environment with other artists for a certain amount of time. they look really good on applications and sometimes you even get paid for them, a lot of times they are where an artist's primary income comes from. i'm going to look at one in omaha. not that i want to live there but because of the opportunities it will bring. i guess it is moving temporarily but it depends on what you feel is worth doing in terms of art.
i'm willing to do a lot of things for art, but i also have a significant amount of debt to pay off so unless this residency was guaranteed to pay me at least $30,000-$34,000 for the year so that i could continue paying off debt then maybe. but honestly, if i were to do a residency somewhere, it would probably be somewhere outside of the midwest.
