It looks like they changed the backstory quite a bit, but you'd probably have to in order to make a whole movie from the 30 page book.

whaaaaat?? wow, they did change the back story a lot. i don't know how i feel about that whole inventor aspect....but the movie looks better once the food starts falling from the sky. i also don't know how i feel about the animation style.
