Susp's Review: ANIMATED JAZZ

Aug 12, 2008 16:17

Cool, hip, on the ball, open-minded, and likeable, Animated Jazz is quite unlike most of the other Elite Guard members we've seen thus far. Here's hoping he never gets torn in half by Megatron.

Vehicle Mode: Jazz is a sports car similar to a 50s' era Corvette. 12.5 cm(4.9") long, he's white with metallic grey bumpers, rearview mirrors, and exhaust pipes, metallic silver front grille and rims, bright red taillights, and translucent cyan headlights. At first glance, his windows appear to be opaque black, but are actually translucent cyan painted over black. On his hood are rose red and royal blue racing stripes and the Autobot Elite Guard symbol.

Like all Jazz toys, this latest version is sleek, swift, and sweet. It rolls quite nicely on most surfaces, and it has some fantastic detail to it, particularly the wire rims and the pointed taillights.

Transformation: Quite similar to the G1 toy's transformation. Flip out the legs and the feet, swing the arms out, rotate the doors and the exhaust pipes, fold down the small black tab on the underside of the chassis, and swing down the chest.

Robot Mode: In robot mode, Jazz stands 15 cm(5.9") tall. He's mostly white and black with very dark green painted on his upper arms, abdomen, inner thighs, and feet. Unfortunately, this paint has been applied very sloppily on mine. Jazz's elongated head is white and black with a grey face and cyan lightpiping. He also features moulded earphones and a pointed chin.

Jazz's head, shoulders, wrists, and hips are ball-jointed, his upper arms, waists, and thighs rotate, and his elbows, knees, and ankles are hinged. His chest has a slightly annoying tendency to raise up when you're trying to pose his arms. His armament consists of a pair of nunchaku formed from his exhaust pipes. Held together with white nylon string, they're a first in the Transformers line.

Overall, Susp Sez: Despite some lousy paint apps, Jazz is a pretty sweet toy. Great car mode, good transformation, and cool robot mode with good poseability and weapons. 9/10
