Icons and how to get started

Anyone know a great icon making program?  I've been wanting to start making some but can't figure out the best way to go.  Hoepfully it would be very user friendly.

Adobe Photoshop is your best bet. Take an hour to experiment, read up on tutorials, and from there on, it'll be easy. People think it's complicated but mostly because they don't try it out for a bit--it's pretty simple though and very satisfying. You can download the program or buy it off online--it's bundled with Adobe Imageready, a program you can use to animate your icons.

Plus, photoshop's not constricted to mere icons. You can edit photos or any sort of graphics.

Photoshop is my dream program, but it's too expensive for me. I use PaintShop Pro. It's easy to use, and costs less than 100 bucks. ;)
