Happy Thanksgiving

Nov 21, 2007 11:32

Just noticed that my last entry was three weeks ago. Well, that does make sense. Three weeks, our happy little married life turned upside-down.

So, while procrastinating studying for his final, my husband decided to attempt to make a brick of thermite late on Halloween night. (See You Tube video for more info.)

Something's wonky with your HTML. :P

Thanks for the update, though. I'm so glad that Nate's healing so well-- miracles really do happen! Anyway, I was going to call tonight and see if you needed anything. Do you need anything? Want to play this weekend? I've got Friday off (WHOOT!) and I'm desperate for some frivolity.

Definitely! Call me.

What's wrong with the HTML? I'm not using a client here at school so I'm not always aware of stuff.

It looks like you fixed it-- the embedded YouTube video was just coming up as links at first.

Although you still have misspelled words showing up as red. Is that a subliminal message as to who you want to win the rivalry game on Saturday? ;)

No. But I did wear red today without thinking about it. Over the school announcements, they played both teams fight songs.

Fe2O3 (s) + Al (s) + catalytic heat = Al2O3 (s) + Fe (l) sannalim November 21 2007, 19:42:40 UTC
And he wanted to make thermite why?

I mean, as a chemist, I totally appreciate how fun it is to make things that blow up...

...under controlled conditions as a lecture demonstration.

I'm glad things have turned out okay for you and that Nate is healing up well. Have fun decorating your Christmas tree together!

Well, Nate's always liked to play with chemicals. (His parents have tried to teach him that he was mortal...but like most 25 year olds, he'd ignored them up to this point.) His plan was make a brick of thermite to take out to the middle of nowhere and blow up at a safe distance. He'd purchased some extremely fine sulfur (I don't get how this would make it a brick, but that's what he says he was doing), but it wasn't melting like he wanted it to. So...he stirred the concoction...which allowed the heat from the butane burner to enter...which means that ALL of the thermite exploded.

Consequently, he did come home from the ICU and SAFELY disposed of all other combustible chemicals.

How Awful!! I'm glad everything worked out.

Have fun with your cute tree:0)

I have a question about the Mo-Tab Christmas concert, this being my second year doing this. Of course this year they decided to do a drawing like approach, and I got tickets for the Spoken Word Sunday morning. Does that mean I'll only be able to see 30 minutes of the program? Or is it still full length and the telecast is only 30 min? The web page doesn't explain much.

Have a good night,
Jade

Oh, my goodness. How absolutely terrifying that must have been. I'm so glad he's okay now.
