The ECDL is probably largely the same as GCSE IT however when you did your GCSE's you would have used a pretty old version of Microsoft office and it has changed alot, especially in 2007.
The course is split up in to basic modules for, Spreadsheets, Databases, Wordprocessing and Presentation those obviously relate to the different office applications.
Also there is a basic module at the start which deals with computer hardware, folders etc. very basic.
As far as worth is concerned i find that employers seem to know what the ECDL consists of compared to GNVQ/GCSE which has changed syllabuses 10 times in the last 5 years.
Im sure you will find it profoundly boring, as most of the people i teach do but for the small amount of work required its worth it :].

I read up about it on a few websites and it does seem pretty basic.
I guess that gives me the advantage of perhaps getting it done faster, thus having my certificate sooner.
Thanks for the advice. ^_^
