Yes, I know it takes me forever to update but I have to blame it on so many good pictures, I had a hard time paring them down. but don't worry, I made slide shows so it doesn't take forever to see them.
I got to Finland on the 27th and was going to meet up with my friends the next evening so the next morning I went walkabout all around the harbor area and finally into the Uspenski Cathedral. I arrived during a ceremony and it was so beautiful in there. the walls and ceiling are painted in beautiful scenes. I wish I could have taken pics but it wasn't allowed.
I had a long walk along the waterfront just admiring the boats.
that evening my friends finally all arrived and we decided to go out to a place called On the Rocks, a cool little bar near the train station where we listened to some good local music. We left around 2 cause everyone was jet-lagged, starving and a few were quite in their cups. Passing the ice rink, Shari and Tina decided they must have a go, skates? who needs skates? Tina took a couple of hard spills but they had so much fun and we had a great time cheering them on. Headed to the grilli for the best hamburgers in the world, well maybe they just seem like the best after a drink or three! finally hit the bed around 4 and slept like the dead. The others headed out for lunch at Hesburger and then on to Katajanokka and I went shopping. Found the gingerbread moominhouse molds I was looking for and a pink moomin duvet cover at the Moomin shop. At the bookstore I found little bike license plates that said Äiti which means Mom in finnish. I'm going to try to find a full size real finnish plate to put on my new car cause I'm just that weird : P
The first night at Tavastia was so much fun. I didn't care so much for the music but it was great to meet up with friends from other years and hang out and meet new friends. I also discovered my new favorite drink Hartwall original gin long drink. yummy, tastes just like Fresca and gave me a nice buzz. When Tavastia closed at two, we headed to Dante's an old church converted to a bar for more drinks, fun and conversation. we were with a bunch of finnish friends and the girls went crazy for the handwarmers that Tina and Angela had while the guys scoffed. It was a great night. We were shoo'd out at 4 when they closed and headed to bed to rest up for the next night.
The second night we went to our friend Henri's apartment for a pre-party and the girls, Liina and Jonna fixed some yummy snacks for everyone to munch on. Henri played some old videos and we checked out different kinds of music and videos of bands then we headed off to Tavastia. Got there just at the end of the first band, I think it was Sara? I was really looking forward to seeing Negative again and they didn't disappoint. Next up was The 69 Eyes and they always put on a great show. We stayed till closing and then hit the grilli again then decided to make a little earlier night of it and were only out till 3. slept great as always. I so love this place!
it took me all night to do this because I forgot about how screwed up putting slideshows up can be and kept having to redo it. argh! more tomorrow, I promise.
