Good for your buying a much needed cot for the shelter. There are so many charities worthy of donations and it's hard to choose. I gave a monthly donation to support a child and her family in Kenya for several years until she was 16 and I currently have a monthly donation go to the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) which goes towards help lines and support for vulnerable children. If money was no object I'd be giving to the Samaritans, sponsoring a gifted but deprived child in sport training, donating to the RSPCA (prevention of cruelty to animals), Oxfam, Alzheimer's Society, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research and a local hospice. There are so many deserving ones....

It's not a charity per se but a UN division...UNICEF is the one I prefer to support as the among the world's children there is so much need.
Doctors without Borders is another favourite.
