Prepare ye the way

I remember the old saying 'Expect the best, but prepare for the worst.' But eventually I learned that people, at least, usually behave as well or as badly as you expect them to... so taking that to the next level shouldn't surprise me.

Everything is an individual choice. A man of Sadat's ilk is very rare these days. He made a very unpopular choice among his people and paid for it with his life. Usually the unpopular choice (in my view) is the best choice. It shows integrity and individuality. This story also proves my point about nationalism and mob rule. Unless people are ready to look within themselves for truth, prejudice and hatred will always be the order of the day. I am neither an optimist or pessimist. I merely "am" and adjust accordingly.

Actually, a man of Sadat's ilk was very rare then but isn't so rare today: "his" name is Barak Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Jimmy Carter (who led the Camp David peace talks for Sadat and the President of Israel), the Dixie Chicks, and lots of other folks, some of whom led the way and got villified and others who aren't afraid to come out anymore (lke Green Day).

I'm like them: I have "gone with the flow" when there wasn't a chance in hell that I wouldn't get crucified by the government, but it doesn't mean I agreed with it. Now we can all "come outta the closet" and work hard for the right reasons 'cause we have a raggle-taggle crew to stand up WITH.

And Sadat was killed, but not just for his beliefs but for ours. We're all gonna die: he just chose the "for what". And he prepared the way...
