Auxiliary keyboard to use with laptop & AutoCAD?

I just posted this to cad_monkies, but I figured I'd put it here, too, in case anyone on my FL has any recs ...

I'm looking for an auxiliary keyboard to use with my laptop; I'm one of those ACAD users who does everything from the keyboard, and I need a keyboard AND the numerical keypad at the end to really produce.
Other than the flexible, roll up ones, can ( Read more... )

Hi, my name is Marie and I've been reading your comments in Pocket1's post about dogs and the people who dislike them. I just wanted to say that I can appreciate your arguments and agree with you. I am a bit surprised at some of the sentiment in that thread. It shouldn't bother me - I don't know most of those people at all - but it does bother me and I have been nodding in agreement as I read your responses. I would have emailed you instead of putting this here, but I couldn't see an email address in your profile.

So, I wanted to say this, but I also didn't want to add fuel to the fire.

Thanks for the sarcasm in the Architecture post. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. It's fine and good to tell someone that they really need to dig deeper before relying on the community for ideas. It's not so good to be mean about it. And the line had been crossed.

My first two instincts were to A) think of usable methodologies, and to B) tell the poster to try to think of usable methodologies before coming to us. I think at this point posting that would be piling on, so (again) I wanted to thank you for engaging the dialog in a way I probably haven't the subtlety to.

Thank you for posting this, and further, thank you for clarifying that you weren't being sarcastic! (As you correctly assumed, given my own tendencies, that's exactly what I would have thought.) It's also pretty charitable of you to portray my little remark as "engaging" in the dialog. Or subtle!

It's been twenty years since I was immersed in my own Architectural education, so I like to think I have some perspective. I agree that coming to the community, palms up and empty-handed is not a great idea, but the students in that community really ought not be so obnoxious to each other. They won't always be in Architecture school, where that sort of behavior is applauded. :)

No problem. And as I can be really sarcastic myself, I figured ambiguity wasn't the best policy.

I'm in an unusual position when it comes to the whole education thing, in that I am currently a grad student but I'm also pushing forty. I have my immature moments, of course, but in general I'd like to think I look at things through an older set of lenses. I'm also lucky in that my school really, really encourages a collaborative environment. When I see a clueless student I feel a compulsion to help move them forward. That said, the ones who won't even try to answer the questions for themselves wear me a bit thin. When it comes down to it we're all going to have to work with each other, so snark may not be the best initial reaction to even this sort of question.
