I'd support an opt-out scheme. But until everyone has free internet access and nobody ever uses the book any more, rather than just you, forcibly abolishing it seems foolish.

Oh. Better add 'and there's a canonical, reliable online directory with some strong guarantees of accuracy' to the conditions too.

There already is a theoretical opt-out - it does not work as the delivery people are just told to do Road A then Road B etc. I have requested this 3 years running and still have a pile of the damn things clutterng up my porch ;(

You will note I am not saying the book should not be available on request - just that it should be an opt-in not an opt-out as with other forms of junk mail ;)
