My grandfather is about to die. As he had his last rights he ate chocolate and had a martini. He also requested no funeral, but that all of us remaining folk should throw a party...

Is this remotely normal?????

Sounds like it was his way of coping to enjoy his time left and retain his sense of humor as much as possible. I hope he was sincere, and perhaps he really will die happy. I'm sorry too, btw. A book I'm currently reading seems to give me a new outlook on death. It's a Buddhist writing that mostly says that we should die with compusure and perhaps use your death as an important experience on your entire journey, living or not.

It's not by the Dalai Lama, but one of the Buddhist masters. It's the most popular Buddhist book today, like a Buddhist classic- "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" by Sogyal Rinpoche

I think it is cool that he would want chocolate and a martini. I mean he seems like he would be trying to enjoy some of the things he liked alot before.....he pulled a Dumbledore. (sorry not trying to be funny about dumledore just fit.)
