Shiny! I haven`t heard from you in such a long time. What are you up to? I`m working as an English teacher in Japan now, and I miss Santa Cruz like crazy! I`d be thrilled if you post more often. I want to talk to Santa Cruz people. :-)
Really? JET is a great deal if you can handle highschoolers. Which is no small undertaking. But they give you free accomodations and a commuter pass, and the salary is great too. You`ll be working for the government, which has its share of benefits. It`s an excellent way to put away a nest egg. The free rent is especially awesome, and if you go to a small village, you`ll totally be the town celebrity. The only reason I didn`t go that route is because you`re tied to the public school schedule, and the school year starts in August. I wanted to leave much earlier in the year than that, so I went with a private company that was willing to hire me in March. I`m with NOVA in Nagoya, which I think has a similar salary to JET, but doesn`t offer free housing. It`s been great so far! If you do JET, do you know what area of Japan you want to go to? I`d be happy to tell you what I can if you have questions. :-)
