Sounds like your day was good. I like the Walker Art Gallery - I know a lot of it can be uninspiring, but I like to look at things which I simply could not create myself, which is where modern art fails. I remember a picture in there of the burning of Shelley's body, but I cannot remember who painted it. I am crap. Lorraine used to work at the Walker Gallery, so I think she would be a good person to go with. I also like the religious paintings, because they are so often gruesome. Isn't there a massive one of Samson and Delilah on the wall going up the staircase?
Your French Tarot cards sound very interesting.

The Shelley painting was one of three I saved in my phone when I was there. It stood out so much from the anodyne stuff that was around it in that room, where the painting is so good technically I want it to inspire something in me, I like things that give me a sense of atmosphere. For the record, it was painted by someone called Fournier. I knew I saved it in my phone for a reason. The other two were the murder, obviously, and the title of this string (a religious piece in three parts; old, but staggering)
