I've been toying with the idea of doing a food/photography blog which may or may not have a weight-loss spin to it.  I know, I know, I keep making big plans for projects that seem to go nowhere.  Well, this may be another one, but at least it will give me a focus so I can stretch my art-ing muscles.  These two images have no home in terms of food ( Read more... )

I like the rendering on the second one and the first one is just plain trippy.

and don't feel bad about the making plans then not following through. I haven't drawn, sketched or painted anything in almost a year, so all of my "big" plans have fallen by the wayside. With working so much and so far away, by the time I get home I just don't want to do anything, then there's school.

Bleh.

Thanks! It's too bad you live so far.. My friend Sue is trying to make "art night" happen once a week, that's where these images came from. If you're ever able to make it out to bridgeport on a weeknight, let me know!

It's right around the corner from my house, basically 5 minutes from the king of prussia mall. The day of the week that we have it varies, but I'll let you know.. send me a message on myspace with your cell #, and I'll shoot you a text when we have it.

Your composition is the photo is both direct and tasty. The lighting makes me want to make a stir fry.

Thanks! This was one of the first shots I took with my newish nikon d80. I also have a d50. I have film cameras too, but I never use them anymore.

Okies. Straight up- I could use some camera advice.

For starters, I'd like to know why you picked that model and how much experience you had with SLRs before you did. Basically, is it silly-person proof?

Well, I do virtual tours for realtors and it really puts a lot of wear and tear on my equipment. I picked the Nikon line because their price point was better when I bought the D50 and they are supposed to be a bit more durable. I've been using SLR's since I was 13, so that's about 16 years, whew! If you're new to it, I'd get a D40, or whatever is comparable. Anything higher and you start spending more money than you need to. As for silly person proof.. I don't even know all the ins and outs of these cameras and I sold them for several years! But the D40 and it's equivalents have the symbols on the dials for auto settings just like more basic cameras.
