Now is your chance to show you care: suggest a name! I have a great name for a baby boy, by the way: Foetus. After one of my favorite musicians, of course. Feel free to use it.

I suggested "Mordechai" - servant of Marduk.
Hey, uh... Stupid white girl question here. It's a hypothetical. I've become rather good friends with a co-worker. She is Palestinian, wears a hajib, is Muslim - ETC - You are from Isreal but were/are Jewish. I've always thought that being pro-Palestinian was not anti-Semetic (I actually saw that saying on a bumper sticker on a car in the parking lot of the Temple my family and I used to live by). Obviously, my opinion on Palestine does not matter, and I've become more aware of that as I've learned more about all the different ancient tribes and their lands... But I'm totally missing something. That wasn't a question... I guess I just want your opinion on the whole "pro-Palestinian" thing.

I've always thought that "pro" was the wrong term in this case. It implies an either/or option. You can be either pro-life or pro-choice. You can't be both. Whereas lots of Palestinians and Israelis, as well as other people around the world, support the continuing existence of Israel while acknowledging the fact that it comes at the expense of the Palestinians. In other words, the fact that we support the Palestinians doesn't mean that we'd like to get rid of Israel -- and vice versa. The other thing that bothers me is that the terms "pro-Palestine" and "pro-Israel" emphasize -- and imply one's support of -- national identities, government institutions, and military organizations -- rather than people, the actual inhabitants of that disputed land.

Yes, I agree that adding "Pro" to this situation implies either/or. However, I have no relation to Israel other than I think it'd be nice if the Muslims and the Jews could live in their own lands peacefully. I'm "Pro-" everyone being able to live where they want and keep their cultural identity ( ... )
