The wind from my window reminds me of England, and a lovely evening walk by a small pond. My friend's really nice car was parked just out of sight and suddenly we heard tires screech on the pavement, as someone obviously booked out of the parking lot in a hurry. My friend and I looked at each other, eyebrows identically raised. "You have it ( Read more... )

>The wind from my window reminds me of England

...so it's going at 100 miles an hour and clearly audiable from the other side of the room, even if the window's firmly shut and the curtains are closed? ;D

It's the endgame I'm never sure of. With writing, I pretend to know where the story and characters will take me. However, as with the game, I begin to lose control, get caught up in the inevitable plotting and planning, and eventually, become locked in a struggle that ends in stagnation and failure.

That's how I can relate writing and chess. Not very good at either, as it turns out. ;/

You and me, both!! LOL I still love it, though--the most interesting games I played were the ones I lost, and the most interesting stories I've yet to write--beacuse when I attempted them, they KICKED MY ASS XD So much to learn still. Yikes!

When I write ( not much ;_; ) I see a "scene" brilliantly in my head, and set out to achieve it. Then I try to find my way through the maze that connects a "beginning" to one scene and then to another or more, and then to a "satisfying end".

Chess is about not embarrassing myself, which means that even if I don't or can't win, I don't go down easy or do something stupid that lets the opponent beat me without effort. ( Chess programs easily trash me though. ;_; )

I have to say they seem very different to me. I can't say I really have a concept of my audience at all. I don't go farther than determining whether I think something I write is cool or not. So the reader is neither opponent nor friend; they're not even "there" when I write, except perhaps as a hope that someone somewhere will read what I write and enjoy it.

I'm scared to play against the computer. I find it so disconcerting--the speed with which it makes the next move! I mean, I'd think about mine for _ever_ and then, ping! And it's my turn again.. XD

Hrmmm... I guess there is a connection. ;) I write poetry, and sculpt/paint and play chess.
And my best stuff is done in a zen state where I'm NOT thinking about WHAT i'm doing.. I just am DOING. LOL Drives my fincee NUTS!! I play chess the same way, and whup his ass, and yet when he asks "What were you thinking" it's usually.. "When's Lunch?" Or something so NOT realted to CHess! LMAO. ;) Mind you when i DO think about what I'm doing.. in chess OR art, I muck it up SPECTACULARLY! LMAO!

Ehhhh, I'm not sure WHAT that says ABOUT me... but :D

Instinct vs. brain--the eternal mystery... My trend is--whatever I start learning, I ROCK in the first few games (pool, cards, etc). It subsides after a while, but I have a rather spectacular case of 'beginner's luck', hee :3

GO is a lot like chess, however, I find the Outcome of a Go match can change quickly just like writing a story you might find a pattern that works well up untill a point but before you know it your stuck and you'll need some good ideas to recover.

The wind from my window IS England and reminds how I never get a holyday away from here! -AD
