If it's okay to ask, I'd like to know what a normal working day for you is like? Do you even have "normal" working days? *lol* As a comicker myself, I find it hard to have normalcy with all work demands. ^__^;;;
How do you relax when you're not working?
How do you manage to have free time and/or work on your smaller story projects (like from bento box)?
And was it hard for you to find an agent? Did you approach them or vica versa? What was that process like? (I'm sorry if that's too personal a question to ask, please feel free to not answer, or answer privately).
Thanks so much~! I'm totally looking forward to Witch and Wizard and whenever you get to start back on NightSchool (LOVE it).
There is no such thing as normal working days, alas! Life likes to intrude whenever it can, and since a freelancer's schedule is flexible, I end up working all sorts of weird hours. I try to put in at least 10-12 hours of work a day, but when the deadline is close it's more like 18-20. I do have days when I do no art, but just try to take care of all the other things--updating, e-mailing, grocery shopping, family and friends time, trying to fight back the chaos on my desk, etc
( ... )
Your work amazed me when I was 18, and it amazes me just as much today! How do you keep improving? (So many professional artists get stuck at one level and stop changing...Do you make a conscious effort not to, or force yourself to study new ways of storytelling...?)
I kind of hate my art a lot so I constantly try to improve it, haha! Well, it's not that I hate my art, but I'm very dissatisfied with a lot of it. Things that I see in my head are so much cooler than what I end up getting down on paper... So I do all I can to try and up my technical skills somehow. It's certainly a good motivation, striving to not suck in your own eyes XD I constantly study the work of others and I have a serious how-to book addiction!!
I love all your chibi or near-chibi work, from Svetlania Wheneverly to Svetlania Weekly. I love Saigai Kiken best of all the characters. At least I did until you made "Once Upon a Pony" in the "Pony Rock" collection. That flimsy little pamphlet was my best buy of my Toronto visit for TCAF 2010. And the funny thing is that I read that you had done it fast, at the last minute.
Will you be doing any more chibi or near-chibi work like this?
OMG, Once Upon a Pony!! Haha, that was such a fun little piece, yeah, I basically did it in one day, pencils/inks/tones and all. I love chibies and I will ALWAYS continue to make work like that. It will continue to be utterly random, unless you're reading Yen Plus, where I usually always have some sort of chibi-comic afterword!
oooh wow. this is kind of late buuutt...a long time ago (exactly how long i don't remember) i emailed you a fanart pic of Matt and Sandra. don't know if you ever got it. if not, i'll be happy to link you to it. it's on my deviantART :D
also, any chance you'll be swinging by a con in california in the near future? thanks! :3
I think I might be at San Diego this summer... But I am not certain. If there are any plans for that, I will announce it on all my usual web haunts (Facebook, site, Twitter, etc.)
Fanart!! It's quite possible that I did not receive it, I've had some email problems on my site in the past.
ohz noez, email trouble! here's the link to the pic in my dA gallery: http://a-san.deviantart.com/gallery/#/dzesgy it's kind of old, and it's pretty pixely because i drew it in ms paint D8
What is your Favorite Color? Favorite place you have ever traveled? Do you ever look at really old art and say "Oh my god, I drew THAT?", in a positive or negative way?
My favourite colour is lilac! Or any pinkish-purple hue, really. NEW YORK ;___; I fell in love with that city. Second spot is a tie between Toronto and Kyoto. Oh yes... Usually I try to NOT look at my old art, so that it doesn't burn my eyes... (...Though to be fair there are quite a few pieces that I'm proud of to this day, too!)
