The Casey scene was brutal. At first I thought it was gratuitously cruel, and now I think it was only semi gratuitous, because there is something to be said for using cinematic tools like that to create a scene that is hard to stomach. Because impact is emotion (and because violence is arbitrary and silent and painful and brutal like that. Atmosphere wise it was a very accurate portrayal of very unnecessary violence, against someone who was specifically drawn - particularly in this episode - as very, VERY innocent. It sends a more general message across which I liked). Dick Wolf knows how to put a pretty-blurry-heroic coating on his attack portrayals and he didn't this time. It was maybe done to garner sympathy for teh Casey. I don't know how well it worked with other people, and I loved her even before, but I was crying when she was crying at the hospital. This isn't a popular thing to say, but this storyline stayed with me and had an impact and it hurt me and emotion is ( ... )
