The band thing is tough; my band is going through some transition too....we lost our banjo/other fiddle player, just when we could have started to actually perform, and just after we recorded our first album. Now, granted, we're incredibly amateur and none of us expect to make money or anything with this, but when you just start to get going, and then have to stop, it sucks. Now we're sort of back to square one, and none of us have time for a regular rehearsal schedule this spring the way we did last summer and fall. So we're on hold, sadly. Good luck working it out!
Yeah. It's a stylistic jump for me, too, to be in this band, and I have on-and-off doubts about that. But it's fun. I never expected the band to make me a full-time living, of course. But I/we are on a level where I did expect that (given a few months of getting everything prepared) it could soon form a functional piece of my living. Of course, if the insurance job goes well, I won't need the band to earn me money...but I still want to perform and record and such to make it worth my musical time. Otherwise I can join any number of very good choirs easily enough for a similar time commitment.
