Fandom Gossip Girl: The almost instantaneous Empire of the Son reaction
Yes I have complaints. I have very legitimate complaints.
1/ WHY SHOW? WHY MAKE DAN THE MOUTHPIECE OF HOW LITTLE YOU THINK OF THE INDECENT PROPOSAL ARC?
I cannot stress the all caps more than this. Why?!?!?
How the HELL does Dan know about that whole thing and everyone is ok with it? When did all the characters on the show know about Blair being sold for a hotel? Why was Chuck sleeping with Jenny more traumatic for her than being sold for a hotel? Is this a secret only Dan and Nate knows? Does Serena know? It sort of seemed like she knew during the first half of the season.
2/ WHY IS CHUCK FORGIVEN EVERYTHING?
And exactly how does Chuck think that Blair would be the only one who could understand what it's like to have a Dad (Bart) who was apparently a murderer?
LOGIC has completely escaped this show.
But to enjoy this episode, one must wear shipper goggles and shipper goggles alone.... and yes I have complaints even with my rosey/lavendery/sky blue whatever color glasses these are:
1/ Why is it that people are pointing out what they are to each other again? Didn't this happen already with Dan and Vanessa with Vanessa's mom? Don't we already know that finding out your feelings about someone through this trope ends in disaster on this show?
2/ The dialogue wasn't as snappy as before but it doesn't matter because this time it was all about the stuff that's unsaid. My goodness, they are ACTING this whole thing out. The smoldering look he gives her as she walks away ('"we're not done here!"), the calmness/contentment/happiness of Blair that she has no complaints in the universe whatsoever, the softness in how they look at each other. It's all about the stuff that's unsaid because they can't say it even to themselves. I'm surprised Dan was even able to use the word "attraction" by the bar.
3/ The show is going to break my heart. I hate you show. Can we get off the Philadelphia Story now and proceed to When Harry Met Sally land? Please? Why have Blair still watching Chuck on her laptop? Why is Blair Waldorf the new Joey Potter with her destructive pining for Daws... sorry Chuck?
4/ On a musical/scoring note - the ep is quite good. There are a number of standouts. This is going to make the 100 fanforum threads fanmix epically hard to make but oh well we need something to do for the next 6 weeks.
