Winter Wildlife Takes Refuge.

A few weekends ago I took a small trip to a winter bird migration mecca I would never have expected--The Central Valley of California, North of Sacramento. It's so easy to pass it all by, from the interstate highway it appears as a long expanse of flooded agricultural flatlands, boring and brown. Like the Ruby Crowned Kinglets. We get kinglets up here as well, they're so tiny!

Some fabulous shots... And those Sandhill Cranes are just something else. We don't have anything like that in this part of the UK.

That Kinglet is tiny, so nice eyes and well spotted!

That first fellow is the natural equivalent of those early Darkthrone photos.
