"I love hangin' with you, man."

After a slow opening, 2011 rolled merrily along; the year was over before I knew it. A lot has happened. After years of yearning for one, finally gotten a cat, who has been a delightful addition to my life. I've finished The Early Mixes and it's a very strange feeling not to have to have it somewhere in my mind at all times. A friend has re- ( Read more... )

Love the galaxy pic!

I'll tell you Swash, I saw the word "mix" and the song / composer list, and got all excited. I so enjoy ehowton's mixes. I quickly perused your page for the download link, and then realized you were just teasing.

Most of my mixes are designed as CDs with uncompressed sound and cover art, and so aren't really downloadable in their usual form. This, however, was designed as more of a lazy multimedia presentation, so the music and the images I've collected so far aren't teases, just a bit… exclusive.

I haven't been able to give this as much attention as I'd like, but I've listened to the first 3rd of it. Beautiful selections! Thank you so much for sharing.

LOL! I'm just teasing you. ehowton explained to me that you make your mixes in the CD format.

Being a blues, jazz, rock gal myself, it is only recently that I've begun to appreciate and recognize scores, and their composers. I had to train my ear for this far different type of listening. This has just occurred within the last year. So I was very excited to realize I recognized about half the composers on your list. There was a time, I would have said, "Who?"

That's true of most of my mixes, but not the case here, as it was designed more as a lazy multimedia presentation (hence the links in the previous reply). The idea is to play the music in order while letting the images randomly play out on a large screen television.

My apologies! I wrote that BC (before coffee). And yes, I can say, "Duh!" Thank you for the concerted effort to point out the links to me. I am downloading as I type. :-)

Your notes on Die Hard enrich me. Despite the niggle preponderance of the contrary, I nonetheless checked La La Land and yes, affirmation its sold out. Perhaps in another several years there will be another release. At the time I didn't have the data required to make the decision, and while that essay you linked to is a sociological masterpiece (I'm only about a quarter through it), your summation of, "sleigh bells have never sounded so threatening" makes me downright giddy.

And speaking of films, do you plan on distributing your film The Early Mixes for purchase?

Congrats on your savings of Farscape I saw the Blu-Ray at our local B&N this past week - my wife and I keep eyeballing it because its one we've never seen and because we both enjoyed Babylon 5 and the last several seasons of Stargate: SG1. We did purchase a very expensive "used" box-set at the Half-Price Book Store once, and while the discs were not cracked or broken, they were...old. They had yellowed in places and clouded over in others which made them unplayable ( ... )

Die Hard is still available, just not from La-La Land. Moviemusic.Com has it, and Peter Kelly is a good guy and a very reliable vendor (you may also want to check the "used" section to fill in some catalog titles).

The ultimate fate of The Early Mixes is at present unclear. I wish I could elaborate, but such things are what they are.

Farscape is a lot of fun. It's sexy, looks gorgeous, very smart and psychedelic. It is one of those shows that occasionally runs with scissors but somehow manages to sidestep the pitfalls of just about every television trope that it punctures (and there are a few of them). It's well worth getting on Blu-ray too; while the picture is only a slight upgrade over the DVDs, the sound is great and there are more episodes per disc, making it more convenient just from a practical perspective.

You will have to watch the series finale The Peacekeeper Wars on DVD, however, as that mini-series was produced by a different company and is not included in this set.
