I had a birthday today. I received many, many birthday well-wishes from friends and family. And there was also something terrible that happened in my home city.

I wanted to write more about my birthday, and thank everyone and say funny things, but I don't really have anything to say right now.

I meant to send you an email to point out that not only do you share a birthday with Da Vinci, you share it with Euler as well.

But then stuff happened across the river and I sort of lost track of that.

Google had just reminded me that it was your birthday shortly beforehand, and I couldn't help but think what a terrible birthday present that was. I have a friend whose birthday is 9/11, as well, and it just sucks.
