Does that say BLACK WIDOW spiders? I long for gardening right now. Last week almost all of the snow melted and I started thinking about what I'm going to do with our garden this year. Then, on Friday night, it snowed almost a foot. Now we've reached the warmer, but grey and slushy phase before Spring actually kicks in. I hate this in between phase. James' dad is coming from Vancouver on May 8th and I'm hoping to get the gardens looking good by then. We're planning on taking a large chunk of the yard, which was perennial flowers, but has turned into a jungle, and turning it into a vegetable garden. I had a huge one in Kemptville and have missed having my own veggies and herbs since we moved here. We bought a brand new garden tiller the year before we moved and gave it to Grampy. Hopefully he'll let us use it to break up the earth for our new garden. Emma wants to plant an apple tree.
One of my earliest memories is of a garden my parents had in PEI - I remember picking raspberries and eating peas right out of the pod. It really gave me a good understanding of where food came from. One of the reasons I'm planting a vegetable garden right now is so it will be up and running by the time I have kids - I want them to have similar memories. Produce is also amazingly expensive here, so it should cut down on costs, if I can get the fucking snails to stop eating the lettuce. Good luck with yours! I know Emma will have fun. You could get an orange tree that you could bring inside in the winter - she would probably enjoy that too
