i've been hearing alot about people's cats getting sicks lately, kidney problems, urinary problems, etc etc. After that scare with all the recalled pet food, I did a little research and found out that dry cat food is the cause of the problems a lot of the time. Cats aren't MEANT to eat dry cat food. All it is is carbs and other crap they don't ( Read more... )

Congrats on the job!
My grandman fed her cats nothing but wet food for their entire lives and their teeth fell out. It was the good stuff too. The problem with wet food is you have to scrape the plaque of their teeth munually. Dry food helps to knock the plaque off. In "nature" they would be scraping their food off bones which would scrape off plaque.
Anywho, that is my pro-dry food soap box. ^_^ I don't feed mine kitty junk food like Meow-Mix, they get better stuff so hopefully it doesn't have quite as many nasty ingredients.

The funny thing is a lot of the vet-provided and expensive stuff (Science diet comes to mind) were amongst the recalled food. ^^; My cats eat Purina, the vet said that was a good choice, and the animal hopital said that it was fixed boy cats who were predisposed to getting the urinary issues. My boys wouldn't take it too nicely if I only gave them food 2 times daily, but I do give them canned food too, which they naturally adore.

My favorite of all time though was a slogan under some expensive vet food at a vet's office I no longer go to. It was something to this effect:

"Pricey Brand cat food is nutritionally balanced to give your cat all the nutrients and tastes he'd normally seek in nature- chicken, fish, beef....blahblahblah...."

Umm, when was the last time you heard of a housecat taking down a frigging COW???? O_o How can my cat naturally crave cow when his species never ate them??? My boys prefer the fishy canned foods. ^^; If they made 'plastic-coated wire' flavor, though, I bet they'd like that even better. ^^;
