Getting Busy

Currently on the phone with County Mental Health Services so I can get seen by a psychiatrist and continue to have medication. This is a good thing, as I need to have this in order to function. I would be alright for awhile without it, but, eventually, I will become hostile and suicidal. Not the way I want to live in the world. I have accepted that ( Read more... )

Yes, it is the same thing. But, it is astonishing how much the stigma of mental illness persists. Additionally, so many different people have so many different reasons for supposing that modern pharmacology is inherently bad. I have had to defend my use of psychotropic medication against herbalists, homeopaths, spiritualists etc., etc., etc. To say nothing of my own reluctance to accept the diagnosis.
But, 15 years later, I have finally stopped fighting it. No, I'm not stubborn.

Thanks. I know that meds are over-prescribed-it is one of my pet peeves. I shudder when I hear people talking about needing their pills, they'll be better when they get their new pills, whatever. I have worked so hard with therapists, other types of support groups, etc. I know it takes more than a pill-oh! if it was only that easy!
But, yes, you are right, "Auntie," I am the expert here and I'm learning to listen to myself.
