Chapter two
As they were heading towards the heads compartment,
Hermione couldn't help but stare at Draco's back.
Quidditch had been good to him. He had grown over the
summer,
and his hair was longer... "No." She told herself she
must not
think of him in that way, they had broken up, they
were over.
"Miss Granger, Mr. Malfoy it's good to see you both
here. I want to talk to both of you." Professor
McGonagall
said. "I know of your history together and I just
wanted
to make sure that it wont affect how you both perform
as
head boy and girl?" "No of course not professor."
They both said. "Good, I had hoped that you both
mature
enough to understand that you must try and act
responsibly,
as the whole school will be looking up to you."
They both looked each other and turned back
to the professor and nodded. "Now I must also tell you
that
Professor Dumbledore wants to speak to both you as
soon
as you arrive. So make sure you do not forget. This is
all
I had to tell you, so you might as well go and speak
to your
friends." They both nodded and left.
As soon as Hermione got back to the compartment
with her friends, Ginny asked "What happened
Hermione?"
"Professor McGonagall wanted to make sure that Dra..
I mean Malfoy and me wouldn't kill each other, while
we
were sharing a common room this year." "She knew?"
Ginny asked.
"Yes that is why she asked us to act mature." Hermione
responded.
"Well if Malfoy ever does anything to hurt you, I will
personally
hex him until next month." Ginny stated angrily.
Hermione
smiled at her friend and said "Remember he has already
hurt me
Gin, in more ways then I thought possible, and I am
now positive
that he will never change. Before they knew it they
had
arrived in Hogsmeade, and as soon as they reached
Hogwarts
Hermione took off to meet up with Dumbledore.
As Hermione walked into Professor Dumbledore's
office, she saw the professor look up and smile at
her.
"Ah Miss Granger it is good to see you again." She
smiled back at him and said " It is good to see you as
well
Professor. I had heard that you wanted to speak to
me?"
"Yes, well I wanted to ask you to refrain from
treating
Mr. Malfoy badly this year. I know that he may have
upset you and hurt your feelings. But I need someone
like
you to help him to take a step in the right
direction."
Hermione frowned and said "Professor do you mean that
you want me to stop him from becoming a death eater?"
"Miss Granger I can assure you that young Mr Malfoy
doesn't want to become a death eater. in fact he has
sworn to me he will never become one as long as he
lives.
But that being said he will still need assistance in
believing in himself and to fight what he has grown up
being told. Miss Granger, Mr Malfoy requires a friend,
a friend that will help him through the terrible times
ahead of him and someone that can help him get over
the
terrible times that he had at home over the summer.
I know that you dislike him a the moment, especially
after what he did to you. Please remember that the
best of us can make mistakes. He really is in need of
a friend at the moment and I think that you are the
best
candidate for it.
Hermione pondered for a moment to what
the professor had said. Then she carefully replied
"Okay
Professor I will at least give it a try. I don't know
what
I can do. But i will do my best." "That is all I ask
of you
Miss Granger, we can only hope that it will be enough.
now if
You will excuse me I have other places I have to be
and I expect
you do as well." Hermione nodded "Yes professor I
suppose I
better go and start my duties of being head girl. I
will see
you later." As she was leaving the Professors office,
she began to ponder
how on earth was she ever going to become friends with
Malfoy, when he had hurt her so much.
