I hardly ever read anything at Television Without Pity anymore, but, dude, I was so excited that they recapped this. When I was little, I don't recall anything on television frightening me more. I think I stopped watching the show completely for weeks or even months because I was so afraid there would be more like that ( Read more... )

I didn't read far into the TWoP, but is that the episode where Caroline almost cuts off her leg? That episode fucked with my head, hardcore.

DUDE. That was freaky. The one that always terrified me involved a house catching on fire, and I think there was a woman upstairs with an infant. It gives me the shakes even now.

I don't remember that one! I do remember one time that I called a friend (when I was in grade school or early junior high) and she was watching an episode where some girl gets raped, and she was so freaked out and upset she wouldn't talk to me.

Clearly, Little House traumatized lots of people!!

I was a wuss too. Hell, I'm a wuss now.

I totally don't get the TV version of LOTP. I mean, I was a big fan of the books, and the TV show seemed to be so unlike the books as to literally be absurd.

I saw the show before I read the books, and being such a weirdo kid, I guess I just accepted all of it as TOTALLY NORMAL. And now whenever I catch a random episode (which, admittedly, hasn't been for a couple of years now) it's SO ridiculous.

(Though, sadly, I kinda want to own the boxed sets. I'm still really a weirdo. And in some of the same ways. But I guess I can excuse that because I want to own all the books now too.)

Oh, I wasn't meaning to imply that people who liked or like the show are weirdos, just that the gulf between the books (which I knew really well) and the show was too great for me to find the show enjoyable.

ha ha, no, trust me, I think anyone who DIDN'T QUESTION the TOTAL RIDICULOUSNESS of Little House the TV show was a weirdo. And that includes me!
