Dear Fringe...
Fringe. FRINGE. Let me begin by saying that you are wonderful, and epic, and awesome, and a little like fanfiction but in a really, really good way. That said, I am currently having some ISSUES that I feel we should discuss. You know, for the good of our relationship.
First of all, Show, everything you do with Walter Bishop's character is heartwrenching. Never stop. Also, the character of Olivia Dunham has pretty much earned you my neverending love and devotion. I absolutely love every moment Lincoln Lee is on my screen, too.
The thing is, I love all these characters so so much that I really don't want three seasons of love deleted.** "Subject 9" really brought this home for me. Are you telling me that, in the current timeline (which seems preserved, at least in Walter and Olivia's minds, even with Peter's return), Olivia never discovered any powers? No "Ability"? No "Jacksonville"? We never met Nick Lane or any of the other cortexi-kids? No "Bad Dreams"? No "The Road Not Taken"? Without Olivia's powers and the other cortexi-kids, then (not to mention with no reason to go in the first place), both parts of "Over There" get pulled as well. Fringe, I don't think I'm alone in saying that these episodes (and the ones that I didn't think to list) are really the best of the best. I really don't think I'm OK with them never having happened.
I'm also VERY much confused about what did happen in the current timeline. Why-- and how-- do these people think the Bridge was built? We know that Olivia's kidnapping and Alt!Livia's impersonation are still canon, but HOW? Did Olivia and Walter still cross over for some other reason? How and why? Do they think the Bridge was always there, and the Red 'Verse just found it, started building the fancy joint building, and did an Olivia-swap? That explanation might work, but please, Show, let's work on our communication issues. Speaking of things I'd like you to communicate, some explanation of what's going on with Nina Sharp would be fantastic. I get that she and Walter are on terrible terms in this timeline (I guess over the Peter debacle), but why is she all maternal with Olivia?
Also, Fringe-- I know this is just my opinion, and I really hope you don't think I'm crossing a line, but do you think you could have a word with Joshua Jackson about his acting? I mean, I get that his character is supposed to be kind of stoic. Olivia is definitely stoic, and I love her. The thing is, we have seen Olivia get emotional a bunch of times, and it's rare and touching and usually incredibly heartbreaking. Wouldn't it be great if Peter could pull that off, too? I mean, he's been trapped in limbo for ages, woke up naked in a lake, and then was finally finally reunited with the love of his life. I think that deserved some watery eyes and a hitch in the voice, at the very least. Ideally, I think a big hug and a kiss would have worked marvelously, even if trying it would likely have landed him sprawled on the floor looking at the business end of Olivia's gun. He didn't know that! Just my two cents.
While I'm being greedy, do you think you could maybe make sure that having Peter back doesn't come at the expense of screen time for both versions of Lincoln Lee? Because I would miss him terribly. Also, it's been more than three seasons; I think Astrid/ Jasika Nicole deserves a backstory. Or at least a subplot. Some acknowledgement that the poor girl exists outside of the lab (and now the initial field investigation). Please?
Basically, I want to have my cake and eat it, too. And, Fringe, you've been spoiling me wonderfully for more than three seasons, so I'm holding out faith that you won't stop here.
