I sort mine by fandom, typically, but for things like this, I just have a giant folder that I sort by file name, which does tend to randomize it sufficiently.

I think you just have a abnormally large amount of Tennant gifs. Or it might just be size, but the former seems just as plausible.

File name wouldn't work for me, as I tend to list the character or actor name first. (So if I sorted by name, all the gifs would contain "Adipose", "Amy", "Alt!Liv", etc. I thought this would be more random, but I'm not sure it was.)

It doesn't have seem to have helped, if you're clumping Tennant gifs. You could try date added, but that also runs the risk if you have clumps that were added at the same time. You could always go through the laborious task of randomly naming all of them, which would probably ensure very sufficient randomization.
